Was in Vienna last October. Ate ate a Wurstbox after midnight on my last day. They have a.. device? machine? that cores out a loaf of bread so they can insert a sausage.
It is ingenious! It is convenient! It is… highly disturbing.

Why would you try to look for some (quite uncommon and hard to find) industrial hotdog bread, when you have perfectly good cheap fresh bread available?
Also it’s quite common in France at barbecue parties to take one or two barbecue-cooked sausage (chipolata, merguez …) and put it in some piece of baguette with ketchup and/or mustard.

Ok its a little weird, the bread/sausage ratio is off, but this reminds me of my local finger food thats basically a piece of bread wrapped around a sausage, dipped in beaten eggs, then deep fried. Is it a bastardized fusion of a hotdog and a misguided French toast? Yes. Does it slap? Very yes.
There’s an alternate version thats stuffed with minced sardines as well.

When I lived in Switzerland all hotdogs were a hollowed baguette with a sausage and condiments put into the hollowed void. I found them to be less messy to eat and the bread was great. Also, come to think of it, the sausages were better. They
